International Battery Day takes place on 18th February 2022 and is a wonderful chance to celebrate the amazing role that batteries play in our everyday lives. Batteries power an abundance of devices in our lives, from recreational toys and devices to important medical equipment. Modern culture relies and thrives on the power that batteries provide.

Batteries: Power the Everyday

In modern society with new technology, gadgets, and devices, batteries power a huge portion of our everyday lives. Power helps you to keep your home safe,  brighten up your path and excel in your hobby.  Batteries are there every step of the way, through the ups and downs of life.

Common everyday batteries such as everyday batteries such as AA and AAA batteries are found in the majority of battery-powered devices, but the world of batteries encompasses a wide variety of sizes. While nowadays devices are getting smaller and slimmer in size to reflect more modern and stylish trends, specialty batteries are usually compact in size yet as powerful as general household batteries. GP specialty batteries cover all manner of devices and gadgets, from smoke detectors and car keys to watches and smart home devices. Despite the name of ‘specialty,’ these batteries are fundamental to our daily lives and often serve a specific purpose to keep us happy and healthy. Whether you need hearing aid batteries, lithium button cell batteries, or high voltage batteries, GP has got you covered. Discover the widest range of specialty batteries here.

Celebrating International Battery Day

This event is a great time to rethink how we consume power on a daily basis. According to Consumer Council, more than 120 million batteries are consumed in Hong Kong every year and 90% of them are primary batteries, with detrimental effects not only to our health but also to the environment. To reduce our impact on the environment, we encourage you to recycle your old rechargeable batteries at a local drop off site near you and help preserve the environment.

Disposing of old batteries

At the moment, Hong Kong also does not offer any recycling service for single-use batteries. Most rechargeable batteries can be taken to recycling stations to ensure their valuable materials can be recycled, saving the batteries from landfills. Take care when grouping batteries for disposal, avoiding contact between batteries that may have remaining charge by taping contact areas.

While GP batteries are built with advanced engineering technology to protect both your device and your health, battery leakages are very common. To avoid leakages, make sure you remove used and unused batteries from their device when not used for a prolonged period of time. In case of immediate contact, ensure that you quickly wash any skin that has come into contact with battery components. Place any damaged batteries into a bag of their own before disposing to avoid further acid damage. Discover our battery tips.
